About the Project
This masterplan for Weston Island in Bath proposes a phased regeneration strategy rooted in ecological repair, community-making, and thoughtful landscape integration. The design draws from the island's history, placing making spaces at each end and future housing centrally, with an emphasis on daylight, human scale, and connectivity. Two new bridges improve access, while a water-sensitive strategy introduces swales, reed beds, and permeable surfaces to manage flooding and enhance biodiversity. Distinct north and south landscape characters, formal and informal pathways, and layered public-private spaces support phased development and encourage diverse movement through the site. The scheme prioritises blue and green infrastructure, and an ambient loop using the river's hydropower. The Island Forest creates a resilient environment where nature leads the way—laying the groundwork for an inclusive community shaped by remediation, remembering, and repair.
